WHC Hire Proud to Support the 2025 Malvern Hills Challenge
On Saturday, 13th September, more than 320 walkers laced up their boots and set off across the Malvern Hills for this year’s Malvern Hills Challenge, all in support of Help for Heroes — and once again, WHC Hire Services was proud to assist in making it happen.
Help for Heroes is a charity that helps and supports men and women who have served our country, allowing them to lead active, independent and fulfilling lives. This extraordinary charity not only helps repair damaged bodies and minds, but also helps rebuild lives. WHC Hire has supported this local event for many years, taking place only a stone’s throw away from 2 of our depots in Worcester and Gloucestershire.
The Challenge, now in its 14th year, offered participants two routes: a scenic 9 km trek or the demanding 19 km “Full Monty”, taking in every peak across the Hills. Despite a mix of sunshine and heavy showers, spirits remained high throughout the day, with walkers of all ages (and furry 4-legged friends) taking on the course with determination and smiles.
By 6pm, everyone had safely crossed the finish line, where medals were presented by the Town Mayor of Malvern, the local MP, and the Chairman of the Malvern Hills Trust.
However, the celebrations didn’t stop there. The event atmosphere was lifted even higher by the appearance of Private Derby, the mascot of the Mercian Regiment, along with music from the Hereford Piper and the uplifting harmonies of the Rock Choir. To round it all off, participants were treated to a Spitfire fly-by from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight to cap off a truly unforgettable day.
Thanks to the incredible efforts of organisers, volunteers, sponsors, and participants, the 2025 Challenge has already raised over £20,000 for Help for Heroes, with more donations still coming in.
Every pound will go towards supporting injured and wounded service personnel and their families — a cause close to many hearts.
At WHC Hire Services, we’re honoured to have been a long-term sponsor of the Malvern Hills Challenge. Our contribution helps the event cover essential costs so that as much money as possible can go directly to the charity.
This year’s reusable purple-topped water bottles, representing the three branches of the Armed Forces, were once again a big hit with walkers — and any leftovers have been donated to local schools and youth groups.
At WHC Hire, community support lies at the heart of what we do. We’re proud to stand alongside local organisers, volunteers, and participants who give their time and energy to make events like this such a success. Here’s to another fantastic year of walking, fundraising, and celebrating the very best of our community spirit.
Event organiser Tony Potter commented: We’re so grateful to WHC Hire for being such a fantastic, long-term supporter of the Challenge.”
