CHRISTMAS OPENING TIMES 2024

WHC Hire completes a golden hat-trick with RoSPA award

The team at WHC Hire, headquartered in Tewkesbury, is celebrating a Gold award for Health and Safety for the third year in a row. The internationally-recognised accolade was awarded to the company for demonstrating consistently high health and safety standards across every area of the business.

James Clutterbuck, MD of WHC Hire – which also has depots in Worcester and Chipping Norton – founded the business with an ethos of safe working practices;

“It is our mission to ensure staff, customers and contractors get home safely to their families at the end of every working day. We’re delighted to be recognised by RoSPA as a world- leader in Health and Safety practice. Some 2000 entrants vie for this accolade every year, so to win for the last three years in the face of stiff competition is something I am exceptionally proud of.”

WHC offers an advanced vibration testing facility and has developed an IOSH accredited Vibration at Work scheme which is used by manufacturers, contractors and customers alike. The company also developed the unique, patented ‘TRACK-LOCK’ system; a lightweight, non-mechanical excavator transport system that safely secures 1 – 2.5 tonne mini excavators to plant trailers.

Throughout the initial COVID-19 lockdown the company’s Tewkesbury depot remained open, albeit behind closed doors, to service main contracts and urgent call outs. Engineers and drivers were on call from home to ensure support was provided when and where it was needed; ensuring customers could keep working. All depots have since been opened with Covid- compliant precautions in place for staff and customers and business is very buoyant..

Indeed, to service new business contracts, WHC Hire was delighted to take delivery of two new 6-tonne Takeuchi TCR50-2 crawler dumpers in September. The units were despatched out on hire the day after delivery once the normal range of safety checks and pre-delivery inspections had been carried out by WHC technicians. Every machine that leaves a WHC depot is thoroughly checked over before it is handed over to a customer. The productive dumpers are now being used to remove excavation waste on road construction projects in the local area. Tracked machines enable efficient travel across uneven, rough and muddy terrain and these particular units also have a 180° turning dump for sideways dumping; ideal in confined and compact spaces.

A new JCB 220X tracked excavator was also ordered in the past few months and has also
been on permanent hire since its delivery.

The company remains optimistic about the future of the construction sector and business is
exceptionally robust. Finding new ways to boost health and safety practices remains a key priority going forwards.

Today, the team is happy to celebrate on-going success at the third Gold award from RoSPA.
