The New Thwaites 9-Tonne ROPS+ Join the WHC Fleet

Here at WHC Hire Services, we are proud to announce the latest expansion of our nationwide hire fleet with the introduction of new Thwaites 9-tonne dumpers. This investment reinforces our commitment to providing customers with modern, reliable and high-performing equipment, whilst ensuring that operator safety remains at the heart of our fleet development.

Our latest investment in the Thwaites 9-tonne ROPS+ dumpers is particularly significant because of the safety improvements incorporated into the latest design, as well as the recent changes to legislation surrounding forward-tipping dumpers.

Since 2025, legislation requires forward-tipping dumpers with an unladen weight above 4.5 tonnes to be fitted with a production-fitted cabin meeting ROPS and FOPS ISO 3471 and 3449 standards. The change has been introduced to provide greater protection for operators in the event of a rollover or falling-object incident.

It also requires that dumpers with an unladen weight between 3.5T and 4.5T must provide additional means to protect the operator from being projected beyond the overall dimensions of the machine. These latest investments fall into this category, giving clients access to compliant, up-to-date machines across both cabbed and open designs.

The new Thwaites 9-tonne ROPS+ design has been developed with operator safety at its core. The ROPS+ system combines a wrap-around high-tensile steel frame with a pull-down roll bar and a triple-lock motion inhibitor. The triple-lock system is designed to prevent the dumper from driving until three conditions have been met. The operator must be seated, the seat belt must be fastened, and the overhead bar must be locked into position. This provides an additional layer of protection by preventing the machine from being driven unless the operator is correctly positioned and protected

The safety improvements do not stop there. The new 9-tonne ROPS+ is fitted as standard with an inclinometer, helping operators monitor machine position during operation and tipping. Forward and reverse cameras provide improved visibility around the machine, while a white noise reverse alarm provides an additional warning to people working nearby.
