How We Select Our Machinery
One of the most unique processes that occurs within our organisation, is how we go about selecting machinery. It’s not just a case of any manufacturer will do. We put a huge amount of pride, passion a dedication into choosing the right equipment for our clients and our business.
It all starts with welcoming manufacturers that offer the size and style of plant machinery we require.
Once initially vetted, we then request a demonstration of the equipment we’d like to assess.
During the demo period, we put the machinery through our 210-point inspection.
WHC’s 210-Point Inspection
WHC Hire conducts a 210-point inspection designed by our very own Managing Director, James Clutterbuck. This focuses on excavator structure, build quality, serviceability, cab layout and environment, machine operation and safety systems.
Excavator structure
This includes the dimensions and specifications of the machinery. Specifications vary between manufacturers.
Build quality
WHC prides itself on quality. Build quality is a vital element in selecting a new piece of plant equipment.
Serviceability
How accessible are the service components of the equipment? Speed and precision are key to meeting demand for our service.
Cab layout and environment
This essential component is vital to ensuring comfort during operation. This will include positioning, control lay out and operator features.
Machine operation
The equipment needs to operate to the highest standards, therefore we test the machinery in live scenarios, along with different operators.
Safety systems
WHC carefully assesses the safety features of machinery to minimise manual handling and enhance the safety of operators and other workers on-site.
The above criteria are scored individually for each machine we invite for demonstration. Once the inspection has been completed by senior members of the team, an overall average score is calculated. These scores are then compared against various competitors.
Our Trusted Suppliers
To maintain the highest standards in the industry, WHC Hire partners with leading global manufacturers. We source plant machinery from reputable brands known for their innovation, quality and commitment to on-site safety. For over 25 years we have worked with suppliers such as Kubota, JCB, Thwaites, Bomag, Takeuchi, Manitou and more.
Stage V Compliance
All of WHC Hire’s popular plant equipment is stage V compliant. This means that all our machinery meets the EU standards for emissions set out in 2016. In doing so we are actively reducing harmful emissions and improving air quality on all construction sites that use our services. Our investment in cleaner and greener machinery also helps businesses meet their targets while maintaining the highest performance standards.
Digital Support With Plant Equipment

At WHC Hire, safety is always our top priority. That’s why we’ve developed a multi-award-winning digital support system, QR Enabled, available with all our plant hire machinery. Our online vault offers step-by-step tutorials and articles, helping operators master key components and resolve up to 90% of common issues. Accessing this information is simple through QR codes displayed on each machine, ensuring help is always at hand when needed.
